Washington State Gets New Wilderness

Photo of Mt. Index taken near an inholding purchased by the Trust.  (Bill Pope)

On Thursday, May 8, President Bush signed the bill creating the Wild Sky Wilderness. Over the last five years the Wilderness Land Trust, at the request of the Wild Washington Campaign, has purchased 425 acres in Wild Sky. About 1,300 acres of inholdings remain, including critical pieces that link Wild Sky and Henry M. Jackson. With your continued support we will work to eliminate inholdings throughout Washington’s newest wilderness area.

Our congratulations and thanks to all who made this addition to America’s wilderness heritage possible.
