120 ACRES IN ARIZONA’S MT. TIPTON WILDERNESS PROTECTED
On March 13th The Wilderness Land Trust protected two more parcels in the Mt. Tipton
Wilderness. One of the parcels comprised of 60 acres has been the subject of an access dispute since 1998.
The property is located in Marble Canyon, one of the most dramatic canyons in the Mt. Tipton Wilderness Area
about twenty miles north of Kingman, AZ. Marble Canyon is a deep valley draining to the west from a
prominent ridge extending off of Mt. Tipton, the tallest peak in the Cerbat Mountains at an elevation of
7148 feet.
Since 1995, the Trust has protected more than 1,100 acres in 44 different parcels throughout Arizona’s
Wilderness Areas, including Mount Tipton, Muggins Mountains, Swansea and Wabayuma Peak.
Arizona’s Mt Tipton Wilderness
The second property secured for protection, a 40 acre parcel in the Mt. Tipton Wilderness is
comprised of Mohave desert shrub, chaparral, and pinyon-juniper habitat. The property is located on a slope
rising to the south out of Putnam Wash. The purchase of the property and transfer to the BLM for inclusion
in the wilderness area will permanently protect these resources and remove the threat of any private
development on the property. The Trust continues to pursue other private property within this section to add
to this acquisition.
