COLORADO PROJECTS

Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness

Browns Canyon Proposed Wilderness - NEW
Location: central; Chaffee County
Land preserved: 9 acres; 1 parcel
Activity: 2006 - present

Note: This property is adjacent to the proposed wilderness, which is located east of the Arkansas River and north of Salida within the Pike & San Isabel National Forests. The legislation proposed to designate the Browns Canyon wilderness did not include the nine acres of private land. Now that the Trust has purchased and protected this property and is in the process of transferring it to public ownership, the proponents of the proposed wilderness legislation now have the option of including the additional nine acres.
